Morrison Energy Services helps UKPN complete £4 million network upgrade
3rd October 2022
Morrison Energy Services has been working with its client UK Power Networks to complete a £4 million electricity network upgrade in Tilbury, Essex. This project will help meet future demand for around 28,000 local homes, communities and businesses.
The team installed two new transformers which reduce voltage and allow for safer and more reliable electricity transmission. These transformers have 50% more energy capacity than the ones they replaced which were originally installed in the mid-1950s.
Chris Magill, Senior Contracts Manager at Morrison Energy Services, said: “With the increasing demand for electricity and connections of renewable energy supplies, these new transformers will help to future-proof the area.
“Morrison Energy Services is proud to have delivered this project including design, construction, installation, and commissioning.”
Richard Desborough, Project Manager at UK Power Networks, said: “This is a significant investment by UK Power Networks that will maintain reliable electricity supplies for the residents, businesses and communities we serve in and around the Thurrock area.
“This upgrade, with two new transformers now in place, will meet a future growth in demand and keep power flowing for years to come, enabling us to cater for the expansion of the Port of Tilbury and other industrial sites locally.
“It’s great to see the state-of-the-art equipment now energised and already working well.”
This project is part of UK Power Network’s £600 million scheme to upgrade electricity networks across the East of England, South East and London. Morrison Energy Services are proud to be working with UK Power Networks to deliver this safer and more reliable electricity.
