Morrison Energy Services gets ‘green’ light to deliver SGN contract

Morrison Energy Services, a part of M Group Services, has been awarded a contract by SGN to deliver a significant gas diversion project in Dunkeld, Scotland.

Groundwork started last week (24 July 2023) to install a new 14km intermediate pressure gas pipeline as part of its 18-month project, replacing ageing infrastructure to ensure a reliable and consistent gas supply to the local community for many years to come.

Morrison Energy Services was selected by SGN as preferred partner for its track record in gas transmission projects and for its commitment to sustainability, the environment and the local communities in which it operates. This aligns with SGN’s care and concern for carbon saving and environmental matters and these considerations were placed at the heart of the tendering process.

The project area includes sites of outstanding natural beauty close to the Rivers Tay and Braan. Protecting the biodiversity and ecology of these areas have been a key focus in the design and delivery phases. Work will also take place on the A9 Trunk Road, and the team will work with a wide range of stakeholders to minimise any disruption to the local community, ensuring safety is always a priority and the project is delivered with respect of SGN’s customers.

The team will be using a combination of modern trenching machines, no-dig technologies, and open cut trenching to minimise any disruption and carbon footprint associated with the project and recruit team members from the local community as far as possible to maximise its positive impact on keeping the investment local to the area of operations.

Work is due to take place until November 2024 and is part of Morrison Energy Services’ investment in a bespoke gas transmission team which now has contracts and framework positions with every Gas Distribution Network operator in the UK.
