Morrison Energy Services supports energy upgrade in North London

We have worked with UK Power Networks to deliver a £1.75 million electricity investment, which will reinforce energy supplies for thousands of residents in North London.

Our team has worked to install new 6,6000-volt switchgear in Muswell Hill, to ensure reliable electricity supplies.

Commencing in July 2023, our people have worked over the last 12 months to upgrade the electrical equipment in a refurbished switch house, enabling engineers to control power flows to local areas.

Our team began with the demolition of an existing ancillary building to create space for the concrete bunds for the new Primary (33/11kV) transformers to replace the units. The transformers will provide energy security and meet the increasing load in the area.

This upgrade will help to reduce the potential time customers are off power, as well as the number of outages.

Mike Burrows, Operations Director for MES said, this was a very small site, located between residential housing, therefore detailed planning of every activity was key to the successful delivery and completion of this project.

Arinze Udenwa, Programme Manager, Capital Programme at UK Power Networks, said: “ We’re delighted to work with Morrison Energy Services on this major infrastructure project serving locals in Muswell Hill and North West London.

“This investment will benefit residential and industrial supplies and comes as part of our commitment to reinforcing reliable energy for many years ahead.”

The upgraded equipment should serve the community for around 30 to 40 years.
