Morrison Energy Services secures major ASTI Framework with SP Transmission
26th November 2024
Morrison Energy Services, a part of M Group Services’ Energy Division, has secured a major framework to improve the UK’s electricity transmission, in partnership with SP Energy Networks (SPEN).
The partnership will see Morrison Energy Services undertake the design and delivery of critical onshore power infrastructure, in support of Ofgem’s Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) framework.
The programme of works is critical for SP Energy Networks’ upgrade to its electricity network and supporting the UK’s drive to net zero – which will see the greatest improvement in the electricity grid in generations.
It builds on Morrison Energy Services’ long-standing relationship with SPEN, which extends more than 20 years. Morrison Energy Services’ has previously assisted in the construction of a major proportion of the existing transmission network, with the new framework extending this relationship to 2030 and beyond.
With works due to commence soon, Morrison Energy Services will collaborate with SP Energy Networks to deliver the build of the new infrastructure as well as upgrades to the existing infrastructure.
The framework creates a strategic partnership between parties to deliver highly complex, large-scale infrastructure project across central and southern Scotland. Integral to support the drive to net zero, the framework will support SPEN as it works to carry more clean, secure energy from renewable sources to homes and businesses across the UK, enabling the nation to become more self-sufficient.
Furthermore, Morrison Energy Services will create and support local employment opportunities through this significant framework, supporting the industry in developing its workforce and leaving a positive legacy in Scotland.
David Maddocks, Managing Director at Morrison Energy Services Electricity Transmission, said:?"We are delighted that we have gained a place on the SP Energy Networks framework, which represents a strengthening of our long-standing relationship with SPEN and a great opportunity for us to support the UK's transition to net zero.
“This marks the start of a major opportunity for us to grow and develop our workforce, sustainably for the long-term, to meet the complex demands and challenges that this period will bring us. We look forward to working with SP Energy Networks to leave a positive legacy that will be felt for decades to come."
Nicola Connelly, CEO of SP Energy Networks, said: “We’re delivering the biggest overhaul of the electricity grid ever seen to unlock growth and free up network capacity for new homes, businesses and clean energy projects.
“These strategic partnerships will give suppliers the confidence to invest in themselves, growing their workforce, opening new offices across the country and creating even greater opportunities for the UK
“This is great news for the UK and Scottish supply chains, with every pound spent directly benefiting central southern Scotland and its infrastructure for decades to come.”
