ESG I Morrison Energy Services’ Apprentices take action for litter-free shores with beach clean
13th February 2025
This week marks National Apprenticeship Week. We wanted to take the opportunity to spotlight just one way our fantastic apprentices across our Group are giving back to the communities in which we work.
Recently, two of our High Voltage Apprentices from our National Grid Electrical Transmission contract organised several beach cleans, helping to protect the environment and give back to the local community.
Apprentices Ole Bainbridge and Madoc Jenkins led two beach cleans at Oxford bay and Broughton bay, to raise awareness of charity Surfers Against Sewage. The pair collected 75kg of rubbish which included plastic bottles, Crisp packets and disposable BBQ’s.
The beach clean also gave Ole and Madoc an opportunity to talk to the local community, who stopped to speak to the pair about their work along the way.
The initiative made up the community section of Ole and Madoc’s Apprenticeship Development Scheme (ADS).
Our ADS provides our apprentices with additional development opportunities alongside their official apprenticeship training. As part of the scheme, our apprentices are encouraged to plan and run a community project. This not only gives them a chance to get to know the communities in which they work, but supports local charities and our Group Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) goals.
Speaking on the project, Ole and Madoc, said: “When choosing a charity to support for our ADS programme, Surfers Against Sewage seemed like a natural fit. Living and working locally, we both enjoy spending time at the beach. But we’re also aware of how litter not only spoils the experience but harms local wildlife too.
“The beach clean was challenging- both the weather and the tide were against up- but it was a rewarding experience. We’ve already taken part in two beach cleans and plan to continue our efforts, aiming to reach 100kg’s before the end of our project.”
At M Group Services, we’re proud to collaborate to create a lasting impact. Supporting our people, clients, communities and the planet as we as we deliver essential infrastructure for life.
